Awhitu District School

Our Mural

In 1998 the senior pupils painted a mural for our school.
They brainstormed ideas for it and decided that it should be a mixture of our local history and the present day.

There were lots of ideas but they couldn't all be used or the mural would look too cluttered up. It was decided to include a part for: our Maori heritage; the wreck of the 'Orpheus'; birds and bush; and fish in the harbour.

We took some photos to show some of the closer details of the mural.

Everybody at our school is proud of our mural.
