TREES FOR SURVIVAL UNIT

Over the past 15 years (1996-2011) our Trees for Survival Unit is still flourishing at Awhitu District School.  This ongoing process of collecting seedlings to planting out on land around the Awhitu Peninsula is done by our Year 6 students and teacher, Mrs McMahon, and when called upon, parents are more than willing to lend a hand to plant out.    It is a long process to completion and an enormous satisfaction for the students when they go to landowners properties to plant out.  In Term 3, 2010, Year 6 students and parents planted out near 450 trees starting at 10.30am finishing 2pm. There is some excellent information about TFS schools on the National TFS website.
